After graduating in 2000 he was junior research fellow and teaching assistant at the Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. He received his PhD at the Ljubljana University in 2005. Between 2009 and 2010 he worked as Marie Curie Fellow on the project "Radio past" at the Ghent university. Dimitrij's main research interests include archaeology of landscape archaeology, archaeological theory, human-animal relations, archaeology of pastorlaism, mobilities and humanistic computing. He is a member of the editorial board of the journal Documenta Praehistorica .
