Welcome to the Department of Musicology at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana! Our Department offers several courses in English.
Courses in English
In the academic year 2024/2025 the following courses will be taught in English:
In the winter semester ethnomusicological courses Musics of the World: Anthropology of Music (5 ECTS) and Applied ethnomusicology (5 ECTS) will be taught in English by Prof. Dr. Svanibor Pettan. In the course Musics of the World: Anthropology of Music students learn about the anthropological approach to music practices of the world and about diverse musical practices in various contexts – from village parties to symphonic concerts to Eurosong. In the course Applied ethnomusicology students learn about the history of applied ethnomusicology, its methods and techniques world-wide.
In the spring semester the course Ethnomusicology 3 (4 ECTS) will be taught in English by Prof. Dr. Svanibor Pettan. In this course students get insight into the relevant written, sound and audiovisual sources, and learn how to independently manage a characteristic ethnomusicological research assignment in terms of theory and method.

There are also two E-classrooms in English available for Erasmus students: Slovenian Art Music until 1918 S for 5 ECTS and the same course with less ECTS Slovenian Art Music until 1918 C for 3 ECTS taught by Asst. Prof. Dr. Aleš Nagode. These E-classrooms are intended only for students that study in the field of music.
Other courses
Exchange students, that study musicology or similar field of education, can also choose courses that are given in Slovene. You will pass the courses with individual work. You will be given assignments and attend individual consultations with the professors.
