The course treats Greek history, literature and culture of the 20th c.:
- political history, economic and social circumstances of the 20th c. Greece; Greece until the end of World War II and civil wars; Greece in the second half of the 20th c.
- modern Greek literature from the end of the 19th c. onwards: modern Greek prose fiction after 1880 and G. Psiharis; N. Kazantzakis; poetry at the beginning of the 20th c., K. P. Kavafis and A. Sikelianos; poetry of the 1930s generation and G. Seferis, O. Elitis, G. Ritsos; prose fiction of the 1930s generation and P. Prevelakis; modern Greek literature after World War II
- selected chapters in modern Greek art and culture (music, theatre, cinema, etc.)
